Parampara

Stargate Movies’ Parampara is a movie about age-old traditions and superstitious beliefs.

Shripati (Milind Shinde) is a small-time farmer. In his village, it is believed that the family of the dead should feed the villagers on the thirteenth day of his death so that his soul rests in peace. But Shripati does not have enough money for this meal. The only option left with him is to mortgage his small piece of land, which his wife (Veena Jamkar) opposes.

He does not want to be boycotted by the villagers and the village chief, Raoji Aaba (Prakash Dhotre), if he fails to feed them on this day. Shivram (Prashant Neman), who is Shripati’s friend, opposes these traditions. So what will Shripati do? Will he mortgage his land? Will he go against his wife? Will he defy Shivram’s wishes? Will he host the thirteenth-day feast or will he challenge this tradition?

The story has been penned by Pranay Nishakant Telang and it questions superstitions and certain customs which people blindly follow over generations. However, screenplay written jointly by Pranay Nishakant Telang and Sanjay Sawant doesn’t look convincing at all times but still some scenes created good impact like when father asks son “Why did you mortgaged our land?”

Though being a drama based film there are no conclusive scenes which can convince audience either way about truthfulness behind such believes which may act as drawback point of any script itself. Dialogues given by Pranay Nishakant Telang & Sanjay Sawant were good.

Milind Shinde acted well as Shripati but Veena Jamkar also did justice playing her role opposite him where she was looking quite natural throughout entire duration given . Other actors like Prakash Dhotre (Raoji Aaba), Janardan Parab (Shripati’s father), Prashant Neman (Shivram) and Bhushan Ghadi (Rajaram) performed as desired. Others have done what was required from them but nothing more beyond that.

The direction given by Pranay Nishakant Telang was just average. Music composed by Anand Menon & lyrics written by Mangesh Kangane were fair enough to listen once but not catchy so people can remember it for long time period . Choreography done by Pravin Bariya was only OK where as background score given by Vijay Narayan Gawande was just alright. Camerawork handled by Nisha Telang was appropriate whereas editing done by Shrikant Telang seems loose somewhere in between.

Overall speaking, there is nothing much extraordinary about this film called PARAMPARA which can make its presence felt strongly at the ticket window because everything looks too ordinary within it starting from story till execution level itself.
