Lokshahi

Lokshahi by Ultra Media & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. (Marathi; UA) is a family drama intertwined with politics.

Yashwant Chitre (Sameer Dharmadhikari) holds great power as a politician, but he is paralyzed from the waist down. Living under one roof with Yashwant are his father Gajanan Chitre (Dr Mohan Agashe), elder brother Prakash (Dr Girish Oak), sister in law Suhasini (Bhargavi Chirmule), nephew Sadashiv (Amit Riyaan), niece Rohini (Sonal Waghmare) and Rohini’s husband Vishwas Ghadge (Shantanu Moghe). Uma Kulkarni (Ajita Kulkarni), Yashwant’s wife and a social worker, chose to live separately far away from her husband who is also a politician.

When Uma took her daughter Iravati along with her at a tender age, nobody knew that she would grow up into another social worker named Iravati (Tejashri Pradhan). Now that her mother Uma is no more, grown up Iravati loves Shridhar himself being a social worker played by Ankit Mohan. But things have not been the same between them ever since Shridhar got to know that she was the daughter of Yashwant Chitre because according to him it was because of Yashwant Chitre his father died.

But let us take it that way; suppose on this very day when he was going to declare his daughter as his political heir someone kills Yashwanth chitre in front of everybody. Both nephew sadshiv and shridar wanted to fill yeshwanth chitres shoes politically so did sadshiv murder his uncle or shridar? Or could it be someone else altogether? Is this riddle solved?

The script has got some intrigue, political drama, family drama, romance etc in it as written by Sanjay Amar. However, his screenplay keeps shifting between the present and past (flashback) thereby confusing viewers at times. For instance; why does the security officer of Yashwant Chitre disappear soon after Yashwant Chitre is shot dead?

Because even a fool would know that he (security officer) was part and parcel of the murder. Again it’s not clear to us why Sadashiv saves Iravati’s life yet he wanted her dead so much being that she was a potential threat to his becoming Yeshwanth Chitres political heir. It is such twists which water down on the intensity of any given drama. Emotions are missing from this film in spite having them as it also doubles up as both family and political drama. Sanjay Amar’s dialogues are good.

Sameer Dharmadhikari acts well as Yashwant Chitre. Tejashri Pradhan is good as Iravati Chitre. Mohan Agashe lends fair support in the role of Gajanan Chitre whereas Girish Oak has his moments as Prakash Chitre. Amit Riyaan is fairly nice as Sadashiv Chitre while Bhargavi Chirmule provides nice support for Prakash Chitre’s wife Suhasini with Sonal Waghmare being ordinary in Prakash’s daughter Rohini and Shantanu Moghe doing alright in Rohini’s husband Vishwas Ghadge role played by him but Ankit Mohan does an average job here playing Shridhar, Ankit Mohan could have done better!

Even though ACP Vasant Bhosle was played by Prasanna Ketkar who gave usual support towards him, Sushrut Mankani had nothing new added on Kishore Waghmare (the security officer) nor did Ajita Kulkarni as Yashwant Chitre’s wife Uma bring anything fresh either, Yogita Tharwal acts well for Shridhar’s paternal aunt Ashwini and Ashok Kulkarni acts average as Goverdhan Patil.

Sanjay Amar’s direction is so. Sanjay Rajee’s music is fair but there is no song which stands out. Lyrics (by Sanjay Amar and Shyam Malekar) are ordinary. Amey Nare’s background music is excellent and enhances the impact of the drama. Pankaj Kacchhawa and Kasturi Sunil Shelar’s cinematography is alright. Sanjay Amar’s production designing is very nice. Prakash Jha’s editing could’ve been tighter though it’s reasonably good considering its length!

Basically, Lokshahi is not extraordinary enough for the ticket sales.
