Fujimi Lovers
Kouno Jun (MC) confesses to his elementary crush Hasebe Rino, and promises to “Love her forever”. Then she disappears like as if testing the strength of his words. No one remembers her, only Kouno. Fast forward to high school where Kouno meets a transfer that looks like and has the same name as his old crush. Will Kouno love this Hasebe Rino who is essentially a different person?
The art for this series I will say is slightly against the norm. The most common thing you’ll see is that the manga doesn’t care about making the MC look pathetic, actually it would be more accurate to say that they thrive off of making them pathetic.
Fujimi Lovers isn’t so much a pure love story as it is a tragic cycle. Jouno I have polarizing views of, there are times when I love how far he’s willing to go for love, times when I am creeped out by his obsession with Hasebe Rino, and then times when I just want the story to end (Not because the story is bad but because it hurts too much). The humor in this manga can be twisted as it will depict Koumo’s heart outside his body and cut up while he walks around with a heart-shaped hole on his character.
God this manga really just keeps trying Jouno to see how far his love for Hasebe will go. After entering high school he meets so many different versions of Hasebe that seem progressively harder for Jouno to make any connection with. It goes from middle school student elementary school student college student with a HEAVY dialect (to where communicating is difficult) widow then finally boy version of Hasebe. But Jouno continues loving this existence called Hasebe Rino and since its open ended we never know if it works out for Jouno. It sucks and I want to see the conclusion to this story.
